You can often get rid of smell on a mattress by airing it out and placing it in the sunshine. In fact, with the right materials you can remove smell from mattresses quite easily. Preparing To Deodorize A Mattress
Before you deodorize a mattress, you must make sure to remove the source of the odor. Soak up any wet stains at soon as possible or scrape off any dried on material. Gently wash the area with a mild detergent and rinse well.
How To Get A Smell Out Of A Mattress
Whenever possible let a washed mattress dry outside in open the open air and sunshine. If you can’t carry a mattress outside try drying it in a room with all the windows open and the blinds raised.
After you have aired it, you can often get rid of smell on a mattress by sprinkling it with baking soda or baby powder. Let the powder remain on the mattress as long as possible. You can even make up the bed with the powder still on it.
You can remove the smells and accompanying stains from any biological source by spraying the area with hydrogen peroxide and letting it sit until the peroxide stops foaming. Repeat this process until the stain is gone. Then blot up the peroxide and rinse the surface to remove any residue.
