How To Wash Bed Pillows

Just as with other pillows, check your bed pillows for instruction tags and follow them. If there are no instructions, proceed as follows.

Remove the pillows from their covers and check them over for any tears or holes. Mend these before washing pillows.

Next, place the pillows in the washing machine. Always try to work in pairs so that your machine doesn’t become unbalanced. Wash the pillows in cool water with a little mild detergent on a gentle cycle. Then run them through another cycle without detergent to make sure they are rinsed completely.

You can dry pillows in the dryer on low or medium heat. Unlike when washing them, it is preferable to dry pillows one at a time. While one is drying, keep turning the other pillow over from time to time to keep it from souring.

You can also dry pillows outdoors by hanging them on a line on a windy day. Turn the pillow upside down at some point to encourage even drying.
