You’d be surprised to know how many people avoid using one of the greatest kitchen tools of the 20th century just because they are intimidated by food processor cleaning. This is too bad, because food processor care and cleaning is not that difficult. In fact, you can actually clean food processor attachments and clean a food processor bowl at the same time. So read on to answer the eternal question, “How do you clean a food processor?”

So, how do you clean a food processor?

The best way to clean a food processor is to attack the problem as soon you finish using it. Simply pour about a cup of hot water and a drop or two of dish detergent into the bowl, with the attachment still in place. Then run the processor at a slow speed for about 10 seconds. Then dump out the soapy water and rinse everything well.

When it comes to drying a food processor, it is important that you let it dry thoroughly before putting it back together again. Otherwise, you could have a problem with mold forming.

Caring for Your Food Processor

One of the trickiest things about owning a food processor is coming up with an appropriate way to store the processor and its attachments. Obviously, if your food processor came equipped with some sort of storage compartments, you should use those. If not, try storing the part the use the most often in the machine. This is especially true if it is one of the bulky chopping blades. The flatter, grating blades take up less room and are not a dangerous. Try storing these in a round plastic container. If you have extra round plastic lids, you can use these to separate the blades and keep them from starching each other. Just remember to store them in a safe place where you won’t get accidentally cut while looking for them.
