While it is a good idea to understand how to wash a wood cutting board the right way, remember that you can also learn how to clean wood cutting boards without ever using water. In this article you’ll about how to clean a wood cutting board using either method.
How To Wash A Wood Cutting Board
While you can clean a wood cutting board by washing it, it is very important to never submerge it in water nor wash it in a dishwasher. Instead, begin by wiping and scraping the dry board to remove as much food as possible. Then wipe the board well with a wet, soapy cloth and rinse it under the hottest running water your tap can put out. If you used the board to cut meat, you might want to follow this process up by wiping the board down with vinegar. Dry the board with a towel and then let it finish air drying before you put it away. Always store your board on its side to minimize its contact with potentially dirty surfaces.
How To Clean Wood Cutting Boards Without Water
Cleaning wood cutting boards without using water can be even more effective than washing them. Start by scraping the board well. Then rub it well with kosher salt. Let this sit about 10 minutes before brushing it off. If you have not used the board to cut meat, this treatment should be sufficient. However, if you have used the board for meat, follow up this treatment by spraying the board with white vinegar, leaving it on for 10 minutes before spraying it again with hydrogen peroxide. Do not rinse or dry the board but allow it to air dry.
